National Nurses Week

We previously celebrated National Nurses Week, something I am not sure I have ever heard of before. I believe that these unsung heros are the kind of people we should salute every day. I have vivid memories of my nurses over the years, and although I may not have loved them all, 99% of them were awesome. To be a nurse you need to have a natural compassion to help others and to have an understanding of pain, discomfort and a patience that no other can carry. Each and every day they work to help us in the hospital and in our homes to ease into life again and allow us to be ill with dignity. They do not wince when they have to clean up after you and have to spend every moment helping us do tasks that we all take for granted when we are feeling fine. As a child and young girl, I dreamt of being a nurse and knew that this was the job for me. Unfortunately, I spent so much time in and out of hospitals throughout my childhood and teen years that I opted to change career paths. Many, many, years later, my husband had some serious lung surgery. It was a long hospital stay and a terribly long recovery. At this time, in my early 40s, I relaized I would have been a wonderful nurse and can honestly say that I have all of the qualities I speak of. I knew when he needed something before he needed it and I had patience and every quality I look for in a nurse when I am being cared for. I do not regret the path I did take but have spent the last 7 or so years using that compassion in other ways in doing what I do with my foundation. So hats off to nurses and other medical professionals that do a wonderful job of caring. Fun Medical MGD©
