Saying Goodbye

We attended the funeral of my son’s girlfriend’s father the other day and I felt very certain I wanted to share this post with all of you. Johnathan’s girlfriend had the strength and charm to tell me that when we met, her parents played a major role in how she developed and what she will become. Her father Joe, who is the one who passed, was an all around well-rounded guy who thought of everything, planned everything, and never cut corners in anything that he tackled. Although we did not know Joe that well, I felt I knew him the the moment we met. Attending his funeral just proved my judgement was correct and that we may never come across someone like him again. His service was enlightening, happy, sad, and so well laid out. It was as if they were not just speaking of one person. All I could do is laugh, cry, and feel good inside that I had a chance to know Joe and his incredible wife, mother, and many children. My son seems to fit right in with this family and I plan on embracing them more than I was able to in the past. I say goodbye to Joe and hello to my new found friends and family.
