Helping Through The Year

You can help to raise awareness for childhood cancer as well as so many other childhood diseases at any point in the year, not just during a “special” month. Although it is nice to have a special month to promote, I feel reaching out throughout the year is just as important.

I have been able to find true happiness by being able to promote Childhood Cancer Awareness through writing my story and sharing my words whenever and whereever I am asked to appear. It makes me feel special to share all of my experiences, some good and some not so good, with others. It helps people to focus on the positive aspects of their lives; to see and to hear that someone else has been in their shoes at some point in their lives and can still smile, share, and give back. It is completely and utterly a joyous experience to go through, to help others while helping yourself at the same time.

The concept of having a special timeframe to promote concepts or ideas is similar to something my mother shared with me as a child. She would often say that Mother’s Day is every day, or should be every day. Although it is nice to have a special day, you should love, honor, and treat your mother well every day of the year. As we wrap up National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, I hope that all of you continue to share this important message throughout the year and take some time to raise awareness and support this cause. Cancer doesn’t rear its ugly head only a few days of the year, we need to attack this monster with positive energy every day! Don’t you agree?
