A Tragedy and Triumph of the Human Spirit

This has been quite the week of reflection for me. Our country, and the entire world, was stunned when life seemed to come to a halt during the shootings in Aurora. I can only speak for myself, but I believe most of us felt the same…shock and concern of what might come next. It was as if time had stood still and 9-11 was again haunting our lives. I am saddened that there are so many cruel, sick people in this world and could not imagine as I watched things unfold in Colorado, how everyone felt that was involved. It is a simple case of one moment life is completely normal, and then your world is changed forever. The victims, the families, and all of us will never be the same after this terrible tragedy.

Take for example, Christian Bale and his wife, who had absolutely nothing directly to do with any of this or any of these people the day before this happened. How truly considerate and real for them to come visit the memorial and the victims, to take the time to say and show that they truly cared. Though he played the hero in this and other Batman movies, he and his wife took time to speak with the hospital staff as well, the true “heroes” in this life changing event. They were ready, waiting, and part of the unsung heroes of the day. It is nice to hear and see on television how caring people can be. All of the nurses, doctors, aides, and therapists will be emotionally involved in all the victims’ lives for a very long time. For me personally, I feel a connection to hospital staff for all the support they have given me, and I truly appreciate the fact that
a famous person took the time to show his appreciation as well.
