Helping the Unfortunate

The other day, a close friend and I went to our friend Nancy’s home to go through all of her clothing.

Nancy passed away about a month ago and her husband has asked for our help. Kathy and I went there this morning and went through all of her clothing, shoes etc. It was kind of bittersweet but we have agreed that gifting all of her things to a local women’s shelter was something that Nancy would approve of. Her wardrobe will be given to women throughout the area who have absolutely nothing and are in need of all kinds of clothing. The sadness that overcame me while going through her stuff was overpowered by the kindness she demonstrated both when she was still with us and now even when she is not. I was saddened most as we rooted through “stuff” that Nancy collected throughout her life and are uncertain of what to do with these other items besides her clothing. Her family will come down to finish the job and I hope that they each can take a little something to remember this remarkable woman by.  I know it is not things that define a person, but it is amazing how many memories are brought to mind as we come across items that belonged to someone no longer with us. I’m just glad that Nancy’s kindness can extend to others and that they may be able to use and appreciate her belongings.
