My Dad

Celebrating fathers day last Sunday was a wonderful experience that I look forward to each year. First my dad came and spent the weekend with us, something he does not get to do often anymore.

Second, I was able to gather almost the entire family for a barbeque along with kids, grandkids and some very close friends. As I sat and enjoyed all the family chatter, I looked across the table at my dad. What a remarkable man. That is something I do not say often enough, especially to him, but he is. He raised a family of three, in the days when making an honest living was tough and then to top it all off, I turn out having colon cancer at age 7. The rest of my childhood, teen years and more he spent trying to make my life better, keeping me alive and giving me all that he was able to give. Then my mother ends up with a rare disease and the last 6 years of her life he then nursed her through some very trying times. In between he cared for all of us but his strength has left his mark on me. He is now in his 70’s and has suffered some serious health problems in the last couple of years but remarkably enough he continues on, with a smile and a slight laugh enjoying the family as much as I was at that moment.

I have to say that without getting into too much detail, my father is one of the strongest people I know, and for this I have to continue to admire all that he stands for. Thanks dad, for just being my dad.
