Olympic Dreams

Saturday night, I was able to witness a heartfelt Olympic story. Kieran Behan, a gymnast from Ireland, is competing in the Olympic Games. He is not only making history for his country as the first male gymnast, but most important, he is a true example of heroism. How can you say, “I can’t do something” or “there is no way I can conquer this”, when you hear about a person like Kieran? It makes you wonder how you could ever say “never”. This young man is someone I can compare myself to on some...

A Tragedy and Triumph of the Human Spirit

This has been quite the week of reflection for me. Our country, and the entire world, was stunned when life seemed to come to a halt during the shootings in Aurora. I often say that I think it all happened for a reason. Well, it did! All I went through, and all my family went through, molded me into the person who sits here this morning. I have to say, I like that person, and thinking back I would not change a thing. I wish the pain was not part of what I experienced. But, putting that...

Being Ill During a Holiday

Being Ill During a Holiday

Try to make the best of being ill on holidays like the 4th of July, or any other one for that matter. If you happen to be in the hospital, or have a child in the hospital, there are ways to celebrate to try to make the best of things. Dress in the patriotic colors, pack a picnic basket with themed foods like hot dogs, ice cream, BBQ ribs, or burgers, and hang flags around the room. Even the sickest of patients would crack a smile just to have everyone chime in to help make them feel like they are home or close...
