Dealing With a Sick Child

Posted by on Jun 29, 2011 in As a Child, General, Keeping it Together | 1 comment

I often think of my parents and what they went through while I was ill as a child. It saddens me to imagine the pain and difficulty they faced as parents to three children, one of them incredibly ill. When I was sitting with the families at the Ronald McDonald House the other night, I looked into each and every parent’s eyes, and there I saw both my mother and father; The stress and the sadness, the uncertainty they felt about what would happen next and when. My “Normal” Childhood

Posted by on Jun 22, 2011 in As a Child, Keeping it Together | 2 comments

Summer is here and these days remind me of certain times in my childhood. Although it was anything but normal due to my illness, my parents did their very best to make our family life ”normal” for my siblings and I. We need you to help us think, pray, and function...

Ronald McDonald Houses

Posted by on Jun 10, 2011 in General, Keeping it Together | 2 comments

This weekend I am so thrilled to be visiting not one, but two Ronald McDonald Houses. On Friday night, we will visit the Camden, New Jersey Ronald McDonald House, to cook and serve dinner, and on Sunday we will visit the location in Philadelphia, just to meet new people and sign some books to gift away. It will give me and the folks joining me a chance to truly connect with others as we share stories, listen to what the families staying there are going through and offer some advice and comfort. How many people...
